well, supposedly Hideo Kojima said that Snake and Metal Gear will be around as long as people want the Metal Gear series to be around. What'll probably happen is that Kojima will probably give it to some really crappy director who will make the next game suck, thus making no one want the Metal Gear series anymore.
Depressing? You bet. I just hope we finally get to kill Liquid Snake.

Pfft, no kidding Kuat. Not only that, but he'll also write a story where nanomachines will invade MW's hand, but they really aren't nanomachines, they'll be actually ghosts that will replace his arm with Fatman's arm.
Next thing ya know, MW will be on roller skates telling us to "be jolly and get fat" or something like that.
