This thread has the most pedophile-esque title in the entire board.

Meh, Stay Alive basically looks like the concept of The Matrix, twisted a bit and shrunk to a much smaller scale.

Meh, Stay Alive basically looks like the concept of The Matrix, twisted a bit and shrunk to a much smaller scale. Heh, actually the concept of the matrix is that humans are living in a digitally created world that deceives the minds of the people living in it, making them think they do indeed live in a "real" world. The matrix deals with the perception of reality. This movie seems to be about a game that if you play and die in, you die in the real world. Now you may say, "We'll yeah, stupid, that's what happens in the matrix, duh!" True, but its not the same concept is it now? In the matrix people die because their minds accept the dream world as a reality and, as the movie states, "the body can not live without the mind." Stay Alive is just about a game people play. Then it kills you. I know its a concept as stupid as the Ring. But hey, if you're going to correlate something, know what you're correlating. Seriously, your lack of film knowledge disgusts me! I am deeply appalled! Also, the matrix isn't the only thing dealing with this kind of subject ya know?

I think you missed the part where Vivi said "twisted a bit and shrunk to a much smaller scale."
Also, what you're discussing isn't film knowledge but metaphysical philosophy presented through film. The matrix takes solipsism and puts a science fiction twist on it. The only real area that Stay Alive and The Matrix connect is on the idea of the digital myth affecting the physically real. Stay Alive definitely shrinks down the philosophical weight and gives this shared concept a thriller twist.

You need to know what the Matrix is about to know its dealing with Solipsism. The subjects at hand are films, and we know about them, yes, so let's not call it film knowledge. No, let's not. I can think of no other way of knowing that the film involves philosophical concepts, or whatever you call em, but somehow I just know. It's not film knowledge however. Hmm hmm! No sir it's not! Please forgive me for also not knowing the fancy word "Solipsism" and having to bore you with a word by word description of what I think it means. The films have one thing in common. So let's say then that Stay Alive truly is a watered down version of the Matrix. Because as we all know, the computer game truly is making all those dumb people die! Yes! It's not some crazy computer programmer/ killer going around doing all the killing. It's also not magically enchanted or voodoo cursed, or whatever form of magic can do such thing. For all we know, the effect the game has on the players could be inderect, whereas it is direct in the Matrix. Yes, both films involve the digital myth affecting the real world. But what we know about the matrix is that the mind belives the digital is real. We don't know if the concept in the Stay Alive is truly about the mind believing such things, intrepreting the digital world as its own reality, ie. Solipsism. But from what I can tell in the previews it isn't so. Anyway, I don't really want to discuss this anymore, since I have not yet seen Stay Alive, and don't plan to.

I've played that game before. It was published by an underground video gaming group called The Bee Gees.

We're discussing the philosophical premises of each film; not the plot, not the dialogue, not the setting, or any other concept relevant to film knowledge. Film communicates knowledge and, in this case, philosophical knowledge. Is a book on art literary knowledge? I'm sorry that my lack of film knowledge digusts you. All I am saying is that Stay Alive is The Matrix watered down to the principle of the digital myth affecting the real and given a thriller twist instead of a scifi one. The solipsism has been downsized with whatever else that would have made this film The Matrix.

Keep this up, and we can get ourselves an infantry barrack story.
Guy 1: Shut up. Guy 2: You shut up. Guy 3: Both of you, just shut up! Guy 4: Look, if you guy stop telling each other to shut up, otherwise someone will just tell you to shut up Guy 1: Shut up.
