Well, summer is coming up. And that means that every prospective band member will be available to jam. But I need more than that! I need a pledge from all of you! Seeing as how I can't really get one from people in person, I have to do it here, and those I have confronted have not promised any commitment, so I will let you think about it, (mainly, Shane and Val.) But I guess, you also need to know what you're getting into.
We probably won't be able to do much this summer, at least not any proggresive, as Andrew and I want. But we should at least learn some songs and play them at a small cafe or something, just to get some performance experience. If we do end up writing songs, and you do not happen to be part of the writing process, do not feel left out, you can still have your own say in a form I will describe later.
From those band members who have already signed up, and those about to, I have only one hint of advice, study your theory (ie, scales and chord progression.) and practice! Andrew, sing! Patrick, learn your scales, oh and Val too! and Shane, DRUM! I know it seems like unneccesary work, but it makes song writing a whole lot easier, and since we're going to be an experimental/ improv/ proggresive/ band, it'll make live improv all the more easier, for those of you who do not become involved in writing a song, this is where you can express yourself, as well as writing songs of your own, which we will certainly play-- this is everyone's band. Knowing your scales and your instruments will also make practicing a lot easier, and thus we will not have to play a song a million times in order to perfect it and get bored of it by the time everyone else hears it.
Now, if you do give me your pledge and commitment, you must know the following things: You will need to contribute at least two hours of your time for at least three days every week. And actually SHOW up on those times. Making a band can be fun, but it is also hard work, and we must try to balance out the two.
Well, that's all I've got to say. I expected your response and anything you might want to add, such as what kind of band you want this to be, and whatever else your heart so desires to say.
Oh P.S. I know Andrew wants Alex Cooper as our keyboardist, but if he is who you say he is, he is hella good, and probably more experienced than us. So I hope you can contact him and see if he is interested. Hopefully he can join us, but keeping this at a singer/guitarist/bassist/drummer format will be good for now.
