No dude, I totally agree with you. My post was kind of tongue-in-cheek.

What contemporary game companies aren't fleecing the shit out of their customers?
This isn't a rhetorical question. I don't follow the gaming industry too closely.

Team Fortress 2, portal, Alien Swarm, these games show that they actually like their customers. That and the great steam sales, but that is more them as a store. Even Left 4 Dead getting a sequel so soon wasn't so much of an issue, because many saw L4D as a complete experience at the time of launch. The issue though is that customers let them get away with shit, like we let them get away with releasing bug ridden games because we accepted patches, draconian security scemes, and worst of all, entities like Xbox live, which people started to pay for a previously free serivce. "Gamers", and I use the term loosely, lap up retarded shit because most of them are manchildren with disposable incomes.

Heh... manchildren...
Totally lookin' forward to Portal 2 on the horizon, though.
I'd also say HL2:E3 but uh... well, yeah. Who knows when that will become more than a foggy ethereal idea in the back of our subconscious.
I'm still looking forward to it, though...
But yeah, Valve rocks all kinds of awesome. Go Valve.

Their preference for greater distribution through steam rather than DRM really sets them apart and their franchised games are their own. Franchise games have terrible leverage over said manchildren. I've still haven't played Fallout 3. On the other hand, the last Command & Conquer game, for example, was probably the first sequel game in recent memory that I refused to neither buy nor pirate not because of the lack of income but in protest. I was still able to syphon some nostalgia from cutscenes uploaded to youtube. Don't know if I'll have that strength with Diablo III but I'm getting there.

I've hoisted the Jolly Roger for Starcraft 2, but after hearing the plot TWEEST, I actually don't think I'll bother playing. Multiplayer is disabled on the pirated version, so there is no extended value with that.
Diablo III I'll boycott if they have any pull any bullshit. So far there are vague rumors of mircopayments for character customization, extra dungeons, and maps. Nothing has been confirmed so far, however - if the base game is dull and empty, and needs to be livened up by extra content, then I'll boycott.
There are so many games to play these days that it doesn't make sense to have slavish devotion to one brand or franchise. Hack and slash RPGs aren't rare, and to be honest I can get my fix by playing Diablo II anyway.

The latest look at [ Ni No Kuni: Shikkoku], the new DS RPG being brought to us by none other than Studio Ghibli itself. Oh, and it has a 352 page magical tome that comes with it. If this doesn't get a stateside release, someone gonna get hurt real bad.

Drag-on quest log 1: The beginning, maybe the end.
After hearing MW give constant ejaculatory praise to Dragon Quest 9, I've decided to try it out, if only to have a larger platform to support my lambasting of his queer taste in diversions.
I'm an hour in, and I've found this game to be absolutely vital to me. I have needed a sleep aide for some time, and counting sheep wasn't cutting it. The plot and dialogue of this game however are excellent for facilitating slumber. From it's bland, uninteresting plot to trite, typical NPC dialog, I'm going to wager that this game's success is partially due to being a definitive cure for insomnia. My character, Sirus, is part of an angelic race of beings called celestials, who in typical angelic fashion bitch and moan about mortals almost as much as I bitch and moan about how boring playing Japanese RPGs are. They are to collect some ridiculously named resource called "beneficence" or whatever, gathered from mortals thanking you for doing good deeds. The angels want to collect this for the sole reason of triggering their reunion with the almighty, because lord knows they have great distaste for mortals. Really, they all do. I've yet to find any game where any divine being isn't a divine prick. It's like nagging quadriplegics because they can't walk - it comes off as petty and makes me want to personally slap each of them. This not being a western RPG where I can kill BONE NPCs, I just have to leave them being to suffer their personal hell of saying the same dialogue for eternity.
Anyway, so far the gameplay is the usual hopelessly underwhelming turned based snorefest. I remember a time when I played the Mario RPGs and thought that "timed hits" (basically timing button presses to actions) would become standard to actually add in a semblance of gameplay to otherwise painfully dull, random battle filled games where combat was based on a number that you got higher by raising it against weaker monsters, but because players like MW lap up uninnovative drivel like a dog licks their own rectum, they probably figured it wasn't worth the effort. This is why dog food is not meant for human consumption - they can't tell the difference between what tastes like shit and what tastes good. So it is with japanese RPG fans.
I'll post more tomorrow night, if I can stay awake after a session to dissect it further.

Dragon Quest 2: Plot happens
So, I've finished the prologue and have now been booted out of heaven by the plot as it saw fit. Now that I'm finally free of those pansy-ass angels, I now have to suffer the same shit from different assholes; in this case humans. After getting thrown from my heavenly perch, I land in the backwater that I've been helping. As an aside, helping consisted of such satisfying tasks as tapping on horse manure to collect it. I've spent most of my time interacting with the villagers, and by interact I mean listen to them blare their one phrase, with me giving either yes or no answers at times if prompted. These answers are moot anyway, because on talking to them again they will ask the same question anyway. Maybe this game is about solving some worldwide epidemic of dementia? If so, call me interested.
Now at this point it wouldn't be fair to not give my complete honest opinion. While I've already made clear that the gameplay is my nemesis and that the dialogue and plot would barely interest an avid fan of blue's clues, I have to praise the game's aesthetics. The game is possibly the best looking on the DS, and has a look that will never grow old- 300 years from now the game will still look good. The music fits, and the interface and control scheme is perfect. These facts anger me greatly. Why waste such effort on a mediocre "game", tailored to dolts who have been playing the same game for over a decade? They probably wouldn't care if it was 8 bit, so the beauty of the game confounds me.
I'm going to give this game a total of seven hours. So far, I've invested two, being that I talk to every NPC, check every nook and cranny, etc. So far the game has not failed to disappoint. It is your typical modern affair - a rehashed, pretty game with no spirit or inspiration. A game that treads familiar waters without going anywhere interesting; stagnant, uninteresting, soon to be forgotten in a year when 10 comes out, like Madden 2009 has been forgotten for 2010. Thankfully not every game studio is afraid of innovating as Square-enix, which is why games are still worth playing.

Of course they don't need PS3s. They've got Starcraft.

I found one. 160GB.
Drawbacks: I now can't find Fallout 3, still don't have internet in my pad, and I've got Little Big Planet with only one controller.

Wait, did you really get yourself a PS3? Cool man, I didn't even realize you were looking for one. If you do get internet up, post your screen name.

I don't know, man, The Wheelman Demo still holds top place for me. Better than Mass Effect, better than anything!

It looks like Wheelman Demo and Skate 2 demo is a matter of taste. It looks like we can agree that Skate 2 demo=Wheelman demo> Mass Effect
