Welp, looks like I've got wanderlust again. After feeling sorry for myself for a while and hitting a bar every night, I've come up with a solution to my woes...get the hell outta here. So I'm thinking about heading to the "Frisco" bay. My intended time vacation time is between Thursday, July 31 to Thursday August 7. Just posting here just to see if anyone wants to tag along. I'm also using this as a research log for the wonder stuff I may learn as I determine the best method of travel.
I've learned a few things about travel which I probably have learned about hearing from Kuat's travels, but I have a tendency to forget important things. After researching the potential flights to San Fran, I figured out that I'm just terrible at researching this kind of stuff. I can certainly conclude that Jet Blue has no direct flights from Long Beach or LAX. Doing a general search on trip finder seems to yield rather morbid results: a roundtrip fare for a single adult is, at lowest, 255, with 1 stop. What. The. Fuck.
An alternative route seems to lead Oakland International Airport. It's right across from San Francisco, and the ticket prices seem reasonable. About 50 bucks to and fro, with the grand total being 119 dollars roundtrip. Then I'd just have to figure out a way to get there.
Finally, there's go o' fashion driving. I've gone through the ordeal twice before. I don't see how a third time would hurt. Probably going to have to get my car tuned up though.

I would say driving. It seems like such a short distance to consider a flight. Then again, maybe I'm just used to using airplanes for cross-country journeys, or when that pesky ocean gets in the way.

Well, I wonder what is going on with Patrick's graduation, isn't it this month? If it is, are we even planning on going up? I'd like to.

I only have six tickets for the ceremony. And I also have family.

San Fran is my favorite city I've ever been to. You'll have an awesome time I GUARANTEE IT. Just avoid Googly, he'll make you listen to funksway noodleiodies or whatever other band until your ears bleed. I only have six tickets for the ceremony. And I also have family. So, how are the wife and kids?

Alright, it looks like I'm going to be going by myself. This'll give me plenty of time to wander aimlessly. There's a pretty extensive set of shuttles that run from Oakland International to San Francisco. The real question is, which one do I take?
PS: I'd drive, but I'm waaaay to lazy to drive for that long.

It'd be cool to have you along. Try to find out as soon as possible so I can determine the itinerary.

Yeah, my pad is still open to ye wary travelers. Well, in exchange for a quest, of course.
Also I believe a high speed rail between LA and San Francisco has just been budgeted. But that's if you want to wait until 2010, or something.

I can do quests. I also cook and clean, though I do alot more cleaning than cooking.
If they do build a railway from LA to Sanfran, can I just stay at your place till 2010?

Coming close to a date yet? Just curious. I got the OK from mah boss, it's official: I'll be heading over to San Francisco on the 31 of July, and stay till around the 7th. I'll probably start serious planning in about two weeks. If I'm going alone, I'd prefer to fly, but I hear PCH has a nice scenic route, so I may consider driving instead. Perhaps I could rent a car there, then fly back? We'll see how it goes...

Taking PCH turns a 6-8 hour drive into a 9-12 hour drive, but it is a truly amazing drive.
