Anyway, I'm sure you're all familiar with PSO, and the general idea of the game. Also, there is the new DS game that has come out, which some of you plan on getting. So, as an intro to the gameplay and universe at large, Mura has found a free server to play Phantasy Star on!
It's a breeze to setup, and I'll reproduce the steps needed here. I highly suggest joining on, as it's an exceedingly fun game, a hack and slash in spaceeeeeeee!
Step 1: get the game here.
Step 2: Run exe.
Step 3: Get patch here.
Step 4: Install patch* (place contents of jp-en.rar into the root of your PSO:BB folder, usually located under "program files". Say yes to all overwrites).
Step 5: register online here.
Step 6*: Run game and logon.
*I had some difficulty actually getting the game to autopatch. So, for those of you who get an error during the update: DON'T PANIC. Simply go to the directory you installed, look for "online.exe" and run that directly. If it doesn't work/freezing just keep running from online.exe, it will eventually go to the general setup prompt.
I suggest going through the options and changing the resolution and system font before playing. Also, using an Xbox360 controller makes the game much more enjoyable.
Anyway, thanks again to Mura for the info, it's at least worth a try for you all. Also, this is important for all those who would say "my cumpoter no work well", the system requirements are that of a dreamcast; in other words, you all can run it.
Suggested changes: After getting to the launch screen (i.e. the small window), click on "option". I suggest changing the resolution to 1024x768, the colors to 32 bit, and the graphics to high end (though if it chugs, go back to normal graphics). You can also change the font to anything (I chose Arial), and lastly, make sure the box is checked that says "Save ID and Password". Otherwise you have to re enter it all the time.
You can also remap the controls in game, which I suggest doing for both the 360 controller and the keyboard.
