Nah, sorry Pammy. They actually did an investigation, it's apparently a missile from Russia that went out of control. I'm pretty disappointed...

I wish I could really talk in-depth about Wittgenstein, (I do remember you discussing him before) but all I can muster is a long "wuuuuuh". From what I can gather, it seems like he's ultimately (I supposed in his final book), saying that philosophical discussion is almost pointless because it's reliance on using and defining human language, which heavily relies on the human experience to become relevant. But because discussion about the language itself takes the language out of the context of experience, it makes language meaningless. At least, that's what I can gather from the video and reading briefly about him on wiki.
In terms of this thread, talking about the unknown as a philosophical idea itself is just fine. But I almost find you posting something about Wittgenstein ironic. If we continued to discuss the nature of "unknown" what direction did you wish to take this conversation?

Well, yeah, I think taking the conversation solely to Wittgenstein would be a bad idea because he's such an "advanced" philosopher. Wittgenstein, in my opinion, is crucial to understanding much of contemporary philosophy's distinction between the everyday known experience and the unknown. To be honest, I was stuck between two videos of Wittgenstein: one that expressed his early thought and one that expressed his later thought which was a rejection of much of the former. I chose the one that expressed his early thought because he's a lot more strict in the distinction of language as experience and that which is outside of experience, and thus more relevant to this thread. We cannot speak of the unknown. However, later Wittgenstein is important here (beside his change from 'picture' theory to 'language-games') because he makes it clear that while 'those things that cannot be spoken about logically' are quite literally non-sense and meaningless, this shouldn't be taken that they are insignificant. In fact, Wittgenstein claims the exact opposite; those things which we cannot speak of logically are the only things that truly matter most. An incredibly profound point that set him at odds with the logical positivists that took him as anti-metaphysical. As such, Wittgenstein on the limits of language has, with other philosophers, lead to the many ideological 'battle-lines' within contemporary ontology and epistemology.
Honestly, I didn't expect to discuss anything so I don't know where to take it. Perhaps we might pass over 'unknown unknowns' and discuss Zizek's 'unknown knowns'?
