It's a dramatization of occurrences in the town of Nome, Alaska, in which the number of missing and presumed dead and missing persons is considerably larger per capita than other towns in the US. Most theories concerning the disappearances of people involve alien abductions; the movie is basically about a psychologist whose patients are all possible alien abductees.
