Bler...I'm sick.. Strange how it coincided with my computer getting sick... I'll probably get better before my computer does..
Anyone know how to go about fixing a giant System Stopped error message? It's plastered on a big blue screen that now forcefully serves as my desktop wallpaper. The text implies that spyware is the cause of the error, but after running 3 different spyware programs it still hasn't gone away.
After running a few internet searches, the main causes for this type of error appear to be hardware and driver conflicts. I haven't installed anything new recently, but I did update my out-of-date video card to the latest driver, which I suspect may have been the initial cause to the problem. I've also unhooked my external drives and ports to see if that fixed anything.
In any case, my computer runs okay for the most part, except for that damn error message that refuses to go away. If anyone has any ideas or knows what I can do, it would certainly be appreciated.

Ha hah HAH! I fixed it!
The entire error message itself was being falsely created by a desktop hijacker by the name of SpySherriff, which tries to pass itself off as a free trial spyware removal program. It's freaking hell to get rid of, and I ended up having to follow a set of instructions that were 2 pages long just to get it off of my computer and keep it from reinstalling itself every time. But yes, gone it is.
If anyone sees SpySherriff pop up on their computer, beware... I know how to do it now though, if it ever happens to one of you..

I hate those programs that fabricate a false virus just to sell you their own anti-virus crap. ARGH!

I...freaking...wish...
You know what? You know what? It came back a few hours later. It freaking came back. So I'm still working on the damn thing. This bloody piece of spyware is hell, and beyond a pain in the ass. I just hope there actually IS a freaking solution to this, it's insane how impossibly persistent it actually is. ARGH! sigh.....

No no no, giving up is the cowards way out. Fight to the death!!
On a brighter note, I tried a makeshift solution, and so far it seems to be working. However, I'll wait a few hours and see if it doesn't come back before I even think of celebrating...

No, giving up and buying a new computer is the consumerist way.
Looks like you're some kind of fix-it-yourself pinko wang-dangler.

I just don't want to again go through the pain of reformatting and reinstalling and reinstating everything on my damn computer all over again.. again.. Buying a new one is ridiculous.. no point in doing that when the hardware still works. So, what happened? Oh yeah, and you could always format the comp... It's back.. *raises hands defeatedly..* I'm out of ideas again.. Shh! Don't say the "R" word! (reformatting) I'm seeking help in a forum of experts on crap like this, though I have a feeling that I might not get a response until Monday or so..

Buying a new one is ridiculous.. Yes, I agree. I'm surprised you didn't pick up on my mockery of consumerist frivolity and the rhetoric it uses to defend itself. I'll just choke it up to the fact that you are Vivi.

Did you ever hear of "hijack this"? As a matter of fact, the forum I'm requesting help at requires you to post a HijackThis log for the admins to look at.

I think it's fixed. Fixed I say! I've been working back and forth all day with an admin, and he says my computer is clean, and SpySherriff won't come back. ^^ I still reserve some skepticism, but I hope for the best.

Hell, it seems fixed to me. It was back by now all the other times it was "fixed". Huzzah! If anyone's curious on the details of part of the hell I went through, here's the link to where I sought tech support: www.geekstogo.com/forum/SpySherriff_again-t37976.htmlThat's also a great forum for anyone who needs computer help for whatever reason. Nice people there. ^^d

Wow, I just read that whole (well... a large part) and FWOOSH. Right over my head.
That Excal guy also sounded more like a robot with his generic post and proper grammar. Creepy.

Yeah, seriously. I dunno how these guys figure this crap out.
Excal seemed nice to me.. I guess I like the proper grammar since it makes him sound more reliable and trustworthy. I'd feel a little uneasy following over-my-head instructions from a guy that constantly misspelled things... As far as generic posts.. how'd you like it if you had to keep typing the same thing over and over every time you were asked a certain question? Heheh. Especially SpySherriff, bloody half the people needing help on the forum are infected with that horrible thing.
And damn man.. it feels SO good to be rid of that thing after trying for so long.. Another thing that's cool is that Excal fixed all kinds of other crap I didn't know I even had, so my comp is totally clean now, woo.
