Alright, as some of you may or may not know, I'm currently taking '2D Animation II', which is actually a Macromedia Flash actionscripting course.
The goal of the semester is to create an entire functioning website entirely out of Flash utilizing actionscript. I was brainstorming ideas on what the hell kind of site to make, and I thought maybe I could recreate this site.
Now truthfully, I'm not exactly sure how the final product will turn out, or if it will be entirely compatible with a free server like this... but what do you think? I'll probably end up doing it anyways.. my only other idea was something to display my art, and I have even less ideas for that..
In any case, even if the final product becomes entirely unuseable, we'd at least be able to incorporate an animated logo for the site I'm working on (and will hopefully finish). ;D
So.. feedback?

Well, a few things to consider. Hell, we would all love a redisign. Also, as long as you distribute the resorces appropraitely, it would be fine on our space.
However, both me and mura know (or rather, regaurding myself, knew) how to use flash, but didn't do it for a few reasons; namely ease of browsing. The first time may be cool, but mainly don't you find yourself skipping website intros a great deal of the time? If you could allow it to streamline the site (such as rolling links, floating frames, ect), that would be optimal. It would be great to not just make it flashier (pardon the pun), but easier to load, browse, and navigate as well. We'd all be eternally greatful for that.

Hmm.. I see what you're getting at, but I think you have somewhat of the wrong impression when I say an entire website made from Flash.
Despite a lot of complex stuff all of us know is out there, this website will inevitably be quite simple due to me being new to actionscript and the somewhat limited time I have to do it (though I can continue to work on it afterwards).
This is far from a flash movie in the shape of a website, heh. So far I'm working out loading images/icons/whatever, making buttons, and creating text boxes that are scrollable.

That sounds actually what I wanted, heh. Sounds great, can't wait to see some stuff.

Think of the amount of explosions we could put on this site if it were flash.
Lots.
Lots of explosions.

I certainly have no issue with it. I was actually going to put up new buttons, but if you're going to do the work...
So, for format, what did you have in mind now? Will you keep this site's format, or would you revamp it?
On a tangent, it's been about 3 years since I used flash, so saying that I'm "a little rusty" might be a bit of an understatement. I have to get familiar with the technology again. Happen to have the program on hand?

As far as format goes, I was going to do some revamping, primarily in respect to convenience and organization.
For instance, I'd like to replace the 'newest page' on the front page with an animated logo of sorts. Not a long movie, just a touch of animation to make it interesting. I'm working on the artwork for the logo now. The 'newest news' thing would stay on the front page as well, and a news history page probably wouldn't hurt, in order to retrace steps.
I'd also like to change up the format on the comic page viewing a bit, like having the links to each individual page on the side and the images would load up next to them as you wanted them to. I was thinking of a similar system for the character bios, and possibly adding in more information, such as level or stats. I dunno if I would change the articles system.. but maybe.
I still have brainstorming to do as far as design goes, but any ideas are certainly appreciated. This site is just as much mine as yours.
Oh, and yeah, I have the program. I'll see if I can upload it in a bit.

That's great. Though I'm not to fond of the animated logo idea. In any case, I guess we'll have to wait and see eh?

do we really need one?

Well we don't NEED one.. but it would look cool. ...and it's nice to have a cover-worthy image that doesn't use copyrighted imagery.

Heh, you might have had a point if it wasn't for the fact that Square-Enix would probably lose a lot more money just sending us an email to take off all the copyrighted images. In any case, I guess a new logo wouldn't hurt. Still think an animated one might more trouble than it's worth though.

Eh, yeah. But I've specifically designed it so that it won't be too much of a hassle. The hardest part will be drawing/coloring the actual images. After that I'm maybe a couple motion tweens away from completion.
