Everytime I hear a song I get a mental image. It's not just the lyrics but the music, I'm more of a musical person. Anyway, I was listenning to the Mars Volta's Cassandra Gemini, a song that takes me from a dark film noir 1950's office to a empty plain where soldiers meet for battle under a red-blood sky. I know, it's worlds away. But that's how the music speaks to me. Anyway, I was thinking, If any of you could make a movie narrated completely by songs, (not like Tommy, but more like a long two-hour music video) what would your story be? And what band would you have make the soundtrack?
As for mine, I'm still thinking about a story, the only thing I know is that it's fantasy. But I'll post it up as soon as I think of it.

I doubt I would have a single band make the entire soundtrack. I would need some variety from different artists. One of my favorite things to do with film and animation is to put it to music though.

Heh, is still remember my thoughts on "Catch" by the Throwing Muses.
a furnitureless room that changes shape, people walking out of a tree, a purple sky, orange grass (almost like a negative)

Yeah, I was thinking about having a variety of artists doing different parts. That way, if you need a soft female voice or a deep voice or something, you can get one. But for sure, the bands I'll have do songs would be:
Mars Volta Sarah Brightman/ Sarah Mclachlan/ Enya Robert Plant and Jimmy Page Ozzy Osbourne Yes Heart Annie Lenox Black Sabbath Rob Dougan

Imagine doing that imagery thing to a CRAK album. Lot's of silliness would ensue, to be sure.
I think I told you about that short film me and Chris thought up that went with the Who song "I Can See For Miles". The one with the superpowered glasses. if not, I'd have to explain it in real life. It'd be too hard to explain here.

I'm thinking my story will concern a knight who is given a special set of armor, from a maiden, some sort of "Lady Of The Lake" such as in Arthurian myths. But it turns out to be the armor of some all powerful spirit who wants it back. Thus the knight feels betrayed, and when he tries to take the armor off, he finds it has begun to consume him, turning his skin into necro-flesh. But it also impowers him, and with it he must either defeat the spirit in time or either be completely overtaken, and made into a champion of evil. Anyway, later on he learns that the Lady was in fact a prisoner of this dark spirit and that she managed to set her self loose for a long enough time to take the armor and give it to him. I think the lake will be some form of portal, such as water is in Celtic Mythology and thus the medium by which she is able to contact him. So what the dark spirit does is this, he unleashes his army upon this magical world, while imprisoning the lady in a cave, guarded by two dragons while she slowly bleeds to death. This places even more tasks on the hero, charging him with the quests of mustering an army and saving the lady. I think the major highlights of this film would be the final battle and the dragon duels. I'm thinking lot's of imagery and unconventional cinematography, such as in sin city. Say for example, a silhoutte of a dragon spreading a red wall of flames, while the knight stands engulfed in a beam of light in the foreground. So many possibilities, so many.

heh, your story tends to be a bit too "Tolkienesque" (or perhaps a more correct word would be "Medievalesque") for my taste, Vampy. Though it certainly seems like you put a good amount of thought into it.
My story? I think it would be more of a story narrated by musical instruments, as opposed to a set of songs per say. It would be the story of two friends arguing over how much of a slice of cake one gets, and the arbitor who tries to set things right. What band I'd get to play the soundtrack? Beats me, probably someone who could play the saxaphone, someone who can play a guitar, and a vocalist with a really deep voice.
