Hey guys, what would be some good music to listen to while traveling around? Like, if we ever went on a road trip or something (though I don't have any plans to at this time). So far, I have b52's Roam and Boston's Don't Look Back. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Well, I brought along queen whenever I have to go on long rides. They are always energetic, however I'm usually (err, always ) a passenger so I dunno if that changes things. But I think "Don't Stop me now" is definite gold. Oh, and what about "I Can't Drive 55" by Sammy Hagar. That one is fun as well.

Alright, I'll see if I can track them down and listen to those. Anyone else have any suggestions?

That's rather harsh. Do you have any suggestions for good "road" music?

Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Minutemen - Double Nickels On The Dime (ironic since the name of th album title happens to be a reaction to Sammy Hagar's "I Can't Drive 55")
Modest Mouse - This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About (pretty much indie rock's required reading for long distance driving).

Oh, and what about "I Can't Drive 55" by Sammy Hagar. That one is fun as well. You're not allowed to talk anymore. I was trying to forge a proper comeback, considering your own... "unique"... taste in music, but I think I'll just let your comment just hang there. It's like the KKK telling someone "that's racist". Mussolini telling someone they are too conservative. I mean, I'm being downtalked by the veritable pontiff of shitty music. You, who get out on mountain top high and preach the word of both the obscure and obtuse, should be the last to rail fire and brimstone upon me.

Because obscure music is necessarily shitty? The invisible hand of free market doesn't always apply to the arts, my friend. But I, in turn, will not make a comeback to your "comeback that wasn't a comeback" and just show you of the man you are defending...

Your judging someone's music based on his taste for clothing? That's low.

But I, in turn, will not make a comeback to your "comeback that wasn't a comeback" and just show you of the man you are defending... I counter that with the argument that obscure music isn't necessarily good. Most of your music seems to be pure "college crowd". That crowd in turn seems to have one question: is it obscure? The question they don't ask is "does it not sound like ass"? Their choice of filters seems questionable, seemly only fitting with shopping at what? Hot topic? And maybe some other trends that go against other trends but aren't supposed to be trends. As far as the artist he sorta looks like the way I could see Andrew dressing, except Orange instead of yellow. And I still hang out with that guy. By the way, you ever hear of questionable content? ( www.questionablecontent.net/). Every time you mention a band, it's been mentioned somewhere in here. It's like my "unofficial guide to Patrick's music". That, and my roommate listened to the same stuff. Ok, ok, I kid, I kid... ...that guy has way better taste than Andrew. (No seriously, I'm kidding, I always appreciate your music posts, which expose me to what I usually don't listen to. Don't want this to get too serious here.)

(No seriously, I'm kidding, I always appreciate your music posts, which expose me to what I usually don't listen to. Don't want this to get too serious here.) I know it's not serious, yo. Just as I really don't actually judge people or their tastes just because they listen to a musician I might not like. I know a lot of obscure rock sucks, you should hear me talk about bands like Neutral Milk Hotel and the hive of super pretentious "indie folk" bands they've spawned. But there are some great bands out there, and I'm not going to ignore them because of bands like Animal Collective.

Well that's the only criteria you mentioned. Just sayin'. Besides, I've known you (and Adrian) to judge artists in the past by traits other than their musical talent. Probably the one thing that irks me the most when someone tells me why they don't like something.

It's the only criteria I mentioned because I wasn't being serious.
If I want to be serious, I would have mentioned how Hagar takes more chances behind the wheel going over 55mph than with his music.

Also I'm pretty sure that those Questionable Content people like Bright Eyes.
Doesn't sound like much but this really makes me nothing like them. Conor Oberst blows.

Alright, I wasn't gonna say nothing, but someone mentioned my name and I now have to defend myself. First of all, you always judge someone by their musical talent if what they do is music. And that's what I do, it's only when I hear music that I don't like that I then allow myself to criticize their other aspects, because I like to know that they at least got something right, and if they don't, they suck big time.
To be blunt, I personally think that my criteria for naming good music is very well defined and probably more so than yours. One thing that really irks ME is when people say that they don't like a certain song because of the lyrics, even if the tune is good. First of all, in music, music comes first, lyrics are irrelevant to how good a song is, because the mixture of good rhythm, a good beat, and a good melody make a great song. If you got good lyrics, than that is just a musically irrelevant plus. Second, good music to me is something that has the ability to put you in a sort of catharsis-- something that reaches your soul and you can lose yourself in.
So there you go, now you know how I really judge music.

I can't really think of any bands to name for you right now for good road music, but here are some that no one should listen to on any basis: The Fall of Troy, Saosin, and Circa Survive. They all suck and are all related in some form or another to each other: Bad things come in threes.
