I have a list that I keep around to remind me what I use (and therefore have backup copies on hand to install) as far as programs are concerned. Just felt like sharing it:
Azerus: Bit torrent client. Used because it is awesome, has file encryption that gets around my school's firewall
VLC Player - Universal media player. Very lightweight.
Open Office - Free office, pretty much
Gaim - Ad/spyware free multiclient messenger program
Firefox (w/download them all attachment) - No duh. DTA is like a download manager that integrates into firefox. Good for large files that may break/become incomplete during a download.
X-chat 2/sysreset - Used sysreset before for IRC use, but school blocked IRC, so I use X-chat that has a chat encrypter. A bit more bloated, but it's my only choice.
DAEMON tools - iso mounter, for CD images.
Hijack This - haven't had to use this for a while, looks for what is running on your comp.
FileZilla - FTP program, does what it does well
Hamachi - proxy server, allows a simulated network
Ventrilo - voice chat
Winamp (w/ SAmp25) - if VLC somehow fails to play a music file, I give winamp (version 2.80, anything newer is SHIT) a try. SAmp25 allows me to listen to ripped SNES tracks. I'm a sucker for 16 bit beeps and boops.
7-zip - Lightweight, awesome zip/rar/archiver program. Lacks some of the useful functions of winrar, but it's free
RetroSFV - File integrity checker. Whenever I burn files, I create an SFV with it; tells me if the file is corrupted or not
mpgjoin - for, uh, split mpg's...
PocketMod - Dayplanner program
qtam - BMP creator
Photoshop - lol, 'shopped
Audacity - Audio editor. Very useful.
Nero - Burn!
Real Codec (w/ classic player included) - Screw you real player, this one allows me to play your files on the old school Windows media player. You know, the one made before WMP became huge and shiny a BLOATED.
zSNES - SNES emu
Nestopia - NES emu
ePSXe - PSX emu
Free games:
Return to Blockland
Cave Story
Tendrils (lol)
Soldat
