Welp, since everyone's favorite holiday is just coming around the corner, I figured we might as well devote another thread to all things Halloweenish. This basically means, I'm just going to post random pictures, but hey, if you guys feel productive go ahead and write a story, draw a pic, and otherwise see if we can creep the heck out of each other. Kuat: Now with General Purpose flavor!

Hell yes! I think this is a thread that I will dominate! Mostly because I am the group's repetoire of all things scary and true. As soon as I can I will tell you a scary story, fictive or legendary.

Actually, now that I think about it, I'd rather do an autumn mix for y'all.
My notion of scary music is disturbing music (Throbbing Gristle, Swans, Teenage Jesus and the Jerks... pretty much the antithesis of easy listening) instead of the ambient spooky stuff you guys would want. An autumn would be much cooler.

This autumn mix is coming along a lot easier than I thought. Got some halloweenish songs on it for good measure. Murders, small talk, a hideous male stripper...

Autumn Mix www.sendspace.com/file/93fosiSo here's the autumn mix that I made. Overall, it has a lot of acoustic guitars and strings which I always associate with autumn as I figure most do. Half of the songs are in mp4 format (thanks, iTunes auto-suckiness) so if this is a problem I can always reupload the songs in mp3 if need be. Here's a track by track explanation of the mix: 1. Gagging Order - Radiohead Lots of acoustics start off the mix, real deep autumny feel to this track. Reminds me a lot of Led Zeppelin's Bron Yr Aur but with Thom Yorke laying vaguely political/social critical but non-intrusive vocals. 2. October All Over - Unwound This was the first song that popped into my mind when I though of doing the autumn album and not simply because of the rather obvious title. It comes off of an already very autumn-esque album called Leaves Turn Inside You. The most beautiful part is when it hits one minute and the dance beat comes in and the guitars do the chime-like third bridge technique. It's a rather perfect song. 3. Nick The Stripper - The Birthday Party A pretty bizarre song which smacks of Halloween weirdness. Nick Cave is an amazing vocalist and his disturbing vocals are here in all their grandness. Man, if I could have only seen these guys live. 4. Catch - Throwing Muses Something about the heavy choruses reminds me of a forest in autumn. The heaviness of the cold? 5. Cohesion - Minutemen A lovely transition of acoustics but this time instrumental. Funny thing about the Minutemen is that even though they were a punk band, they were terribly skilled with their instruments. In fact, most of their tunes don't even sound like punk rock except for the lyrics. I believe I mentioned that I want to put their bassist on the Badass list. 6. Breadcrumb Trail - Slint I know some of you have heard this one before, particularly Anta, when I uploaded the whole of Slint's Spiderland a while back. This song just drenches of autumn to me. I wonder what it would be like listening to this song in a pumpkin patch. 7. Death Valley '69 - Sonic Youth The premiere Halloween song of the mix. Screaming starts it off and next thing you know you're grooving to a devilishly low bass riff. When Lydia Lunch (lead singer of Teenage Jesus and the Jerks) comes in with spooky backing vocals, you start to hear the insidiousness behind the seemingly benign lyrics. Man, those alternative guitar tunings sure can give a song an "on edge" feel. 8. Murder In The Red Barn - Tom Waits If you're doing an autumn mix, you need a bluesy tune and Tom Waits divers. Waits' "liquor and cigarette" drench vocals are amazing. 9. Faust Arp - Radiohead I didn't plan to have another Radiohead track on here but their new album In Rainbows just got released and this song is just amazing and has fall all over it. Strings here are beautiful. 10. I'm A Mindless Idiot - Meat Puppets Another instrumental track that reminds you to stop focusing on the music and take in the autumn colors. 11. Jesus, etc. - Wilco Autumn also calls for violin and Wilco's "Jesus, etc" is is great for autumn car driving. 12. Autumn Sweater - Yo La Tengo Hope you're wearing one while you're listening. 13. Cul de Sac - Tomahawk An off kilter autumn song with an acoustic with some weird tremolo effect going on. This sounds like an excellent song to have your alarm clock to play in the morning (if your alarm allows such things) for the whole of the season. 14. Battery - Aesop Rock OH NO, a rap song. Before you go in to telling me about how much you like all music except for rap and country, give this a chance. The bongo and cello are excellent. Aesop Rock is known for his rather surreal rhymes, you wouldn't be hearing anything about whoes, pimps, bling, etc. on this track. 15. Atlas - Battles Battles have recently been kind of the new big thing in a lot of experimental circles. Their style of recording live samples allow them to do interesting things. Anyways, this song is on here because it just sounds like a soundtrack to Halloween mischief. 16. Together Or Alone Spring is often associated with new love so it's only natural to put a break up song in the mix. This song is perhaps probably best listen to when fall starts to suggest becoming winter.

The first few songs I listened to were actually pretty nice, "chillax" songs to me. Incidentally, could you reupload the other songs in m4a format to mp3? I'd like to hear the rest eventually.
