For those who don't know, I had nasal surgery yesterday. I have been getting horrible sinus infections from simple colds and I can't breathe well, so they decided to fix it.
Well, I had the scare of my life yesterday... whats sad is that I wasn't actually scared until after it was all done with....
Everything was happy and wee after surgery. I was drugged up, I was tired, but it didn't hurt much. I felt weird, but I wasn't crying. The only thing I noticed at first was that I was really, really tired. So they brought me in some apple juice and ice chips to get me to wake up a bit so I could go home.
We all know what happens when people start drinking and they're on an IV. You have to pee really badly. I got up to go into the bathroom, and first reaction to being up was that I was dizzy, and then no matter how much I needed to go to the restroom, I just couldn't.
So I do what I can and then go back to my bed and doze in and out again. Well, at one point, I need to go again, only to the point where it was physically hurting, so they got me in there. I manage to use the restroom a little more (not completely, but it quite hurting finally). I got up and instantly fell down.
The nurse came into the bathroom to find me on the ground breathing hard and trying to keep myself up.
So she has to practically drag me back to the bed. They get me laying down and my body was just completely overheated. I was trying to calm myself down as they put monitors back on.
Now comes the time when I can't remember much of anything because I kept going in and out of consciousness at this point. The only thing I remember after that was them putting oxygen on me, so I'll tell you guys what my mom told me she saw:
She had noticed I was looking pale and knew something was very off, but she wasn't sure what. That's when she realized my lips were gray. My blood oxygen was going really down, but they couldn't put the oxygen mask on because of the bandages on my nose.
But anyway... I guess, according to mom, they cut off part of the oxygen mask finally to put it over my mouth because they needed to get something on there fast. Obviously it wasn't on securely, but it seemed to do the trick. I didn't notice anything weird about the mask when it was on, but of course I wasn't able to really tell too much of what was going on.
This all started around maybe 3 or 4 o'clock. We finally got me into a room around 10 o'clock. They decided to admit me to the hospital so they could watch me carefully over the night.
I guess mom was really freaked out. She told me that we were lucky it happened at the hospital because they had all the stuff there to help me, but that we would have been in trouble had we been at home.
Mom said that she had expected me to do well because this wasn't as difficult of a surgery as my jaw surgery was, but I guess this is a severe risk when they're cutting into the sinuses. This is the reason my brother's friend can't get this surgery because this could happen and it can be fatal.
But damn...
As I said, I was too out of it to worry, but when we got up to the room and I was talking to mom, you could just see how shaken up she was. She had been so afraid that it wouldn't have gone well. I had no idea something like that could happen. It had me freaked out once I saw how mom was reacting.
I guess it freaked out my dad too. He had something like this happen once, but it was never so bad they made him stay the night. So it freaked him out too.
But I'm okay. I'm in a bit of pain, but not as much as the jaw surgery. I'm just kind of sitting around and resting. I NEED to get ahold of Doyle though. My daddy (step dad) didn't tell him the whole story last night because mom didn't want him worried. So I need to go and call him and tell him that I love him and I'm so happy to hear his voice, and that I'm just happy I'm okay.
I'm happy the nurses reacted so fast.
I'm just happy to be alive still...
