Hey all,
Anyway, in my continuing effort to actually get all of us to play games online more frequently, just wanted to link to some programs that you may find of use. Making things easier, I hope, will cause more interest to play. Here's to futility.
www.hamachi.cc/download
First program is called "Hamachi", which is Japanese for... hell, I don't know. But you know all those annoying firewall problems? Those retarded router reworkings to make a game play? With this, you and your friends are put on the same virtual network, as if you were on the same LAN. This makes things a great deal more easy, especially with older games.
For example, Vivi and Dex's Starcraft problem can be solved easily now, and we all can play at the same time. Just get everyone on the same Hamachi network, and instead of joining battle.net, we'll go for a LAN server.
ventrilo.com/index.php
The next program is called Ventrilo (provided by Mura). This is essentially a voice-chat program that can be used in the background while you play a game. Much easier to say things than type it out in a tight situation.
"But Kuat, I don't have a microphone"
Worry no more child, because I harness the power of ghetto technology bestowed on me by living in the bronx. All you need to do is plug a "good" set of headphones into the microphone port. Then go to control panel ==> sounds and audio ==> audio tab ==> set the mic volume on "high". Test out if it works by using the standard windows recorder. Ghetto-tabulous!
www.xfire.com/xf/index.php
Finally there is xfire. Basically, keep track of what you play, as well as what your friends play, and additionally when they are on and what game they are playing. Rather handy. None of us play that much, but in the future...
Maybe...
Possibly...
Heh, anyway, if you have anything else to add, add away.
