Okay, first thing's first. I won Best Drama at AX08's AMV Contest! How cool is that??? Alright, let's go through some numbers. For this year's Anime Music Video contest at Anime Expo 2008, 147 entries were submitted. There are 4 categories to submit to, Action, Drama, Comedy, and AMTV Pro (the last one is basically a category that emphasizes advanced technical effects). So there are 4 categories, and 7 AMVs are accepted for each category, making a total of 28 videos accepted into the contest total. I submitted two entries, one into Action, and one into Drama, and they both got in, which you all know. Drama, in terms of number of entries submitted, was the most competitive category with 54 entries out of the 147 entries submitted, and my video came out on top as the best. Crazy, eh? My Action video looked awesome on the big screen. It had an excellent shot at winning, but was trumped by a video done not only to Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann, but to Mulan's "I'll Make a Man Out of You." A great video, but it had the category in the bag from the start. Anyways, yeah. Awesome. I'm pretty damn happy, all things considered.

Once again. Congratulations. Those other Drama AMVs must've really sucked if you won though.

Awesome dude. I wish Outlaw Star would won, it was perfect.
Cameraman though deserves a "motion blur award".

Ah, a simple sarcastic remark brings about great turmoil.

That is just the beauty of text going out of context.

Ah, a simple sarcastic remark brings about great turmoil. You of all people should know full well that sarcasm does not translate well through text unless it's made very obvious.

Well, you got it the first time, when you first announced that you had been accepted and I said you wouldn't win anyway. Thought it would get through this time again. Anyway, why should I of all people know this? It's not like I'm Patrick, you know.

You of all people should know, because this is hardly the first time you've stirred up an argument this exact same way... but quit dwelling on this, you're just making it worse. This is supposed to be a happy thread. You should be happy for me. There should be no need for sarcasm or bickering.

Yeah, I guess you're right. I was happy for you though. I didn't think it would matter though.

Nice going, Adrian. Real smooth. I'm having this award ceremony for a non-profit I work for, you should present it. It's the Organization for the Betterment of the Sarcastically-Challenged (note: not the Sarcastic-About-Being-Challenged Anonymous).
But to be honest I have never had a high opinion of music put to anime videos. They require a lot of fanboyism for the anime style to stomach, in my opinion, and I generally dislike the music choices. But I am glad that Sean is bringing some quality to the medium, I'm sure.

That's not exactly surprising to hear, Patrick, and not because you're not exactly an anime fan to begin with.
The majority of AMVs out there are people slapping their favorite song onto their favorite anime without much concern for concept or effective editing. Finding the real gems of the medium require a little looking. I'm just glad that my first AMV experience wasn't a horrible one, and instead got me interested. A note: avoid Youtube like the plague when looking for AMVs.
On another note, I've been sleuthing AMV-related forums and such and I seem to have gained a certain amount of respect among all the other "big name" creators. It appears unanimous that I earned my award, and I hear that I moved a lot of hearts in the audience. I'm happy to see that.
I was going to slow down a bit on AMVs, but now it seems that I have something of a reputation to uphold, heh.. I'm going to try and shoot for at least two AMVs to submit for next year. It's gonna be tough trying to top myself, though.

Finding the real gems of the medium require a little looking. Same has how I feel about music in general so I know exactly how you feel. In fact I wouldn't be at all surprised if there were a number of AMVs out there that spoke past their medium and truly justified AMVs as a personal artistic endeavor.

Have you seen mine? Or are the musical stylings just not to your liking?
