Been busy and I'm still none too sure about which mix I want to do.

And not for just a one-night-stand like some other bands are made up to do when they build up a fan base of attraction and infatuation. Hmm... this is suspicious. Those are almost the very words I told you once. Except I think mine had more to do with the metaphor of fast-food culture. I am pleased my eternal wisdom has rubbed off.

My next mix will be music to listen to while watching a sunrise.
Yes, it will be awesome. Epiphany-esque, in fact.

Okay, I've more or less finished the mixes for the other seasons (winter, spring, summer) that Anta asked for. I'll up those once I copy all the files, etc.
Also I've been toying with personalized mixes since I have a number of songs which some of you may like; a dance-able 80's song by Pylon for Val, a guitar-heavy epic by Boris for Adrian, a Pink Floyd-ish build-up by Bardo Pond for Andrew, a groove-y chillax song by Tortoise for Anta... more to come in the future.

Winter Mix www.mediafire.com/?3xgtna7mnd3 (files are in mp3) 1. Holding Back The Year - Lou Barlow A nice acoustic piece from Lou Barlow's (Dinosaur Jr, Sebadoh, Folk Implosion) solo singer-songwriter stuff. "Holding back the year" reminds me of reflecting over the passing year in that winter time before New Year's. Perhaps it was a good year and we are sad to see it go? 2. Frozen Gtr - Thurston Moore This tune is off of Thurston Moore's (Sonic Youth) latest solo album, Trees Outside the Academy. The eerie intro giving way to a bluesy acoustic riff does sound like an acoustic played in the cold of the mountains or something. The violin and a classic J Mascis solo round of the song nicely. 3. Flying Cloud - Dinosaur Jr And by accident I see the Dinosaur Jr connections present in the first three song. Well I suppose its because of the folky melancholy-but-not sound that characterizes a lot of both Barlow's and Mascis' work. This song has a Led Zeppelin vibe that compliments winter. J Masic and The Fog tracks finish off the album, too. I'm so predictable. 4. Hunting Bears - Radiohead This song sounds strongly winter-esque to me. The cold-wind sounding ambiance, the vaguely Eastern European riff... 5. Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division Joy Division has a kind of stark simplicity that fits with winter. If I had the track, I might have gone with "Shadowplay" which sounds more sparse. But I'm glad with this track, it cuts up the "heavy" vibes and gives you something to groove to. 6. Christmas at the Zoo - The Flaming Lips Hey! A Christmas song that isn't boring or overboard with juvenile vulgarity! 7. Summer Babe (Winter Version) - Pavement With a title like that, it has to make the list. Also its an excellent song from an excellent band. Not particularly wintery about the sound but who cares. 8. Secret For Julie - Eric's Trip The opening riff is pretty winterish and the rest of the song is just beautiful. The strength here are the delicate vocals back by a string, heavy bass. 9. Sirius - The East - Cinorama A weird Eastern European Jewish little march tune (the band's actually Japanese). It also has sleigh bells so works beautifully. I can't imagine anyone not loving this song. 10. Moon Song - My Bloody Valentine A song off of one of MBV's many EPs, Moon Song is perfect for winter nights. Put this one headphones, sit on the lawn one night, stare at the moon, and meditate on moon waves. 11. Let's Save Tony Orlando's House - Yo La Tengo A laid back tune that has a busy quality to it and I think song goes well with the obligatory Christmas shopping madness. 12. Free So Free - J Mascis and The Fog A lamenting ballad by Mascis that works for the winter theme. I can imagine listening to this on a long distance bus on my way to return home for Christmas. 13. More Light - J Mascis and the Fog This one I put in for the sake of theme and I don't really anyone to really dig this on a first, second, whatever listen since it's a bit abrasive. However the abrasiveness is key to the theme as the feedback gives a rushing back drop like J Mascis and his band is caught in the middle of a snow storm and try their hardest to play through it. Ultimately blizzard compliments the earnestness of song itself.

And Anta, could you maybe describe what you generally like when it comes to music and maybe some of your most favored tracks in the mixes I made so that I can get an idea? It's for the personalized mixes I'm doing.

Haunted Haunting A mix of scary atmospheric music as request by our own Adrian. I suggest listening to it in the dark. 1. Poledo - Dinosaur Jr Figure I might as well include this since it fits. 2. The Marshall's Boonts - Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 Spooky filler clip which would seem more aptly placed in a David Lynch movie than anywhere else. 3. Weeping - Throbbing Gristle The term "industrial" music was coined in the late 70's to describe Throbbing Gristle, but here TG take a less brutal avenue. If the haunting plucked violin doesn't freak you out completely, the suicidal lyrics should help. 4. Satan Is Boring - Sonic Youth Similar to the last track in its sparse experimentalism, Sonic Youth's track has more of a cyberpunk kind of feel as Thurston Moore's voice is distorted. 5. Black Ships Seen Last Year South Of Heaven - Current 93 Current 93 is a strange band with a strange history. David Tibet's (of which Current 93 is mostly an avatar of) early work was largely industrial music often with occult preoccupation lyrically but has since become a kind of apocalyptic folk music and Tibet becoming a Christian. Sounds to me like a occult priest ranting on a pulpit in a haunted church. Enjoy. 6. 24 Hour Charleston - Jonny Greenwood This track reminds me of American evil, like the Salem witch trials. www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=43f0cae1bdb07688d2db6fb9a8902bda

Nice mix googly. You somehow offered what I wanted, something very visual and cinematic. The whole thing seemed like a silent film about a town in which many strange things happen. "Weeping" was specially effective, offering a sense of desolation and disorientation, like being lost in a fog. "Satan Is Boring" was creepy. The whole free-time aspect of it was rather unnerving, strange sounds coming in at unexpected times gets you on your toes. "Black Ships Seen Last Year South of Heaven" seemed out of place, considering how "old world" it sounds. But you are right about the whole priest in a church thing, adds to the whole haunted town aspect. "24 Hour Charleston" was a very interesting piece of work, the whole bass line adds a sense of impending conflict, as if someone is ready to stand up against the evil in the town. The way ends however, seems to indicate that the challenger may not be so successful.
Good job, Googly! I enjoyed it.
EDIT: Forgot to comment about "Poledo". What I really liked about it was the whole fuzzy siren sections, which initially gave me the the impression of a silent film, why that was I don't know. And I also wish "The Marshall's Boots" could've been longer.

Just need to burn it on a CD and listen to it at work.

I've found Satan is Boring to be the most unsettling song on the list for some reason. Well, it's supposed to be. In any case, it was the song the stuck out most to me.

Well I think I may put together another mix. Probably focused on acoustic guitar so that I may include a track of my own. That way I can significantly and substantially humiliate my songwriting abilities by surrounding it with superior examples.
(Now that I've re-read the last two pages, I see that my decisiveness has been lacking in actualization. I suppose keep that in mind with this proclamation, too?)

www.megaupload.com/?d=0C0EQ8IXAcoustic Mix 1. Long Drive Home - Patrick Alexander Bradley A minute and a half acoustic song composed and performed by yours truly. 2. Red Pony - John Fahey A magnificent song from the folk guitarist John Fahey. Really takes off at 2:40. 3. Rebecca Sylvester - Gastr Del Sol A cardigan wearing indie acoustic song with a light touch of musique concrète added. 4. Peace Attack - Polvo A sitar interlude. 5. King Of Carrot Flower Part 1 - Neutral Milk Hotel A love song for the innocence of our childhood. 6. Silver>Blue - Thurston Moore From the same album as "Frozen gtr" which I've uploaded before, I just love the opening riff and subsequent Sonic Youth-on-acoustic sound in the middle.

I finally had a chance to listen to the mix a few times, and one thing I can really say is:
Wow, King of Carrot Flowers is kinda jacked up.
I thought your composition was pretty cool, I like the intensity of some rifts, though I feel like it ends too suddenly.

It ends too suddenly because I don't know where to take the song after that. I have other songs but they don't record so well.
