That last one frightened me a bit. Your eyes looked black and soul less. The light reflecting on the eyes gave me the impression of beadiness.

You look like a douche in both of them.

I don't think you're a douche.

It never hurts to cover your tracks, sometimes sarcasm or light-hearted joking is lost in text. You can never be too sure how someone will take it until you receive the response.
That being said, yeah, I think your self portraits could have gone better. Out of curiosity, how did you go about drawing yourself? Mirror, photograph, or sheer memory?

Yeah, I wasn't very inspired doing any of the self portraits, so I just wanted to get them out of the way. For these I used photo reference, which I generally consider less than ideal but it was a quick easy solution at the time.
I generally prefer drawing from life rather than a photograph, so a mirror would likely be my ideal method if I ever wanted to seriously do a self portrait. It's just hard to pose and draw at the same time..

Alright, getting into the in-class model rendering now. All the rest of these are from a live model and pose length ranges between 2 and 3.5 hours. These will tend to have shorter descriptions simply because they're more self explanatory. A bit of a simplified rendering due to my lack of experience in the medium. This was done in Conte crayon. Even though it's incomplete due to the pose length getting cut short, I'm pleased with what I did finish. Everything from here on was done in charcoal or colored chalks. Last one for today. This was the midterm test he based a grade on.

More in-class renders. Tried using bolder lighting in this one with mixed results. Slightly unfinished due to a short pose. This one was a bit interesting due to the use of a spotlight casting downward onto the model (as opposed to lighting from the side).

Dude, I hadn't seen those embodied hand and feet 'till now, where on earth did you get those?

Dude, I hadn't seen those embodied hand and feet 'till now, where on earth did you get those? What exactly are you referring to?

Dammit, I hate when you think you type something and your mind picks another word. I meant "disembodied." And now it doesn't matter what I meant anymore.

Well, just in case you missed the description, Sara was the model for those.

Last but not least, this was the in-class final. I consider it to be the culmination of what I learned over the semester. Enjoy. Well, that wraps up the last of the life drawing I had built up, so you won't be seeing any more of that for a while.

Project #1 from my Illustration B class, which is basically an Illustrator and Photoshop class. Overall, I'm hoping this class will help get me more comfortable with digital art tools. The assignment was to create my name in the style of modern graffiti, and create a theme within the artwork. This is an Illustrator project using primarily the pen tool. Enjoy.
