www.sgknox.com/2007/01/11/no-porn-on-blu-ray/slashdot.org/articles/07/01/11/213258.shtmlStep back for a moment without the whole "ha ho ha ha porn lol" deal and look at it from a business standpoint. Porn is huge, like it or not. To blacklist all of it off of your media has to be a crowning achievement of stupidity. It's easy to see this progression: 1.) HQ Porn on HD DVD ==> 2.) Young men with disposable $$ (you know, pretty much their main demographic) will follow what they have followed for millenia: Their pants ==> 3.) More HD player than Blue ray player dispersion 4.) More HD releases than Blu releases ==> 5.) Yet another dead Sony proprietary format. Could wind up hurting PS3 sales, and bosting Xbox 360 sales, due to Blu-ray vs HD DVD. Because the only real selling point for the PS3 is, now, a cheap as hell Blu-ray player (most are ~$1000). Eh, anyway, it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I hate the PS3. I love the XBOX 360. I think I'll write an article about why the 360 is a better investment. Anyway, considering all the equipment you need to effectively see movies in HD, blue-ray or HD-DVD, it's going to take a while for both industries to pick-up.

Didn't think Sony cared where they got their money in the first place. Ah well, at this point, internet probably is still the #1 place to go anyways.

Didn't think Sony cared where they got their money in the first place. Ah well, at this point, internet probably is still the #1 place to go anyways. That's true on some levels, although most of those "channels" are pretty much pirated. It's like saying they might as well not print music CDs anymore because you can technically get any song you want online, either illegally or legally (itunes et al). In other words, the "industry" itself produces copius amounts of physical material, which they still make a decent profit off of.

PS3 is also on the shelfs alot fast and staying there. my dad even ask me if the ps3 was no longer populer. I hate to say it but Xbox 360 so far is looking a lot better as a second system.

On a tangent, from what I've heard, no one is that eager to move to either technology to a certain extent. DVD players are already prevalent and such, and the demand for OMG HQ isn't that high. This whole "format war" could turn out to be a bust. Because unlike VHS or Betamax, or 8-Track vs Casettes, there is preceding tech (regular DVD's) that do essentially the same job. I wonder if both sides will wind up 'losers'.

Why should a buyer go up to paying 30 dollars for a DVD when they can get one for 15 or even 5 buck now and days.

You know, the porn industry seems to be making a bit of a funk about not having as much access to blu-rays as they like, but why not stick with just DVDs?

I concur. DVDs are more accessible anyway. I understand them wanting to be with everyone else on the bleeding edge of technology, but at the same time they should realize that there's guys like me who don't keep up with the latest stuff. I'd leap on the blu-ray train when it becomes more publicly accessible, like in about 2 or 3 years.

Some people really, really, really have to see every fold, wrinkle, crease, dimple, etc, etc in glorious detail. ... ... Hey, that person is isn't not me.

Don't know, I've always figured people have been complaining about Sony products since the begining of time. But if people have been giving crap about Microsoft products, it's probably just the fact that it's made by caucasians. They're just too damn tall.
